15 impaired drivers charged over Thanksgiving weekend

A male suspect who was charged with impaired driving in Whitby on Monday is also facing several firearms charges.

On October, 14 just after midnight, members of Durham Police Central West Division were called to the area of Bayly Street and Lakeridge Road in Whibty for reports of an impaired driver. They located a vehicle in the ditch and the lone male occupant was behind the wheel. He was charged with impaired driving and a search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun. The male was additionally charged with various firearms offences. He was not hurt as a result of the vehicle going into the ditch.

This male is one of 15 impaired drivers charged over the Thanksgiving weekend, police said.

Garnett McLarty Mathueu, age 27, of Pennefather Lane in Ajax is charged with: Operation While Impaired Alcohol and Drug; Operation While Impaired Exceed Blood Alcohol Concentration; Drive Motor Vehicle With No Validation on plate; Drive Motor Vehicle With Cannabis in Open Baggage and several firearms related charges including Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm. He was held for a bail hearing.
