The Township of Ajax yesterday condemned an act of “deliberate vandalism” and said it has been reported to the police for investigation.
The vandalism was committed in the area of Millers Creek Park that resulted in the destruction of some 15 newly planted trees, the town said.
“This behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. A police report has been filed with the Durham Regional Police Service [DRPS] and the incident is under investigation,” said Mayor Shaun Collier of Ajax.
Town staff will attend the site on Thursday [January 22] to remove the damaged trees, with replanting planned for the spring, the town said.
The statement was concluded by saying “The town takes the protection of its parks and green spaces seriously. Acts of vandalism undermine community investment intended for everyone to enjoy.”
