Utility provider, Elexicon Energy, yesterday reported a rare fire at one of its hydro poles in the Town of Ajax.
“Pole fires are not common, but they can happen,” said Elexicon. “They are often caused by aging equipment, severe weather, animal contact, or interference with electrical components.”
It said its crews are trained to respond safely and immediately to secure the area, put out the fire safely, and make the necessary repairs.
“If you ever see smoke, flames, or sparking near electrical equipment, stay well back and report it to your local utility. The safety of our communities is always our top priority, and our crews are on call 24/7,” Elexicon advised.
