$15,000 reward for arrest of Credit Union robbers

Durham Police investigators are releasing a surveillance photo of two suspects believed to be responsible for an armed robbery in Pickering last month.

On December 8 at about 7 pm, members of West Division responded to an armed robbery at the Meridian Credit Union on Kingston Road. Two male suspects, both armed with handguns entered the bank and made a demand for cash from the employees. The suspects then forced the employees into the vault and took a quantity of cash before fleeing the scene.

Suspect #1: male, Black, approximately 6’ tall, slim build, wearing black track suit, black shoes, construction vest and balaclava.

Suspect #2: male, Black, approximately 5’8” tall, faded black jeans, red and white Jordan shoes, dark sweater, construction vest and ski mask.

Meridian Credit Union is now offering a $15,000 reward to anyone who provides any information that leads to the arrest of the two males involved. Meridian advised this is a further step taken by them to help protect its employees and its members, said a police statement.

Anyone with surveillance or dashcam video in the area at the time of the incident, or anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact the Major Crime Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.

Robbers lock credit union staff in vault, flee with cash

Wanted for attempted carjacking

Police said a male suspect is wanted after an attempted carjacking at the Oshawa GO parking lot on Saturday morning.

On December 31 at about 10 am, members from Central West Division were called to the area of the Oshawa GO lot for reports of unknown trouble. The victim was retrieving items from her grey Chevrolet Impala when she was approached by a male suspect asking for the keys to her vehicle. The victim refused and the suspect punched the victim in the face. A brief struggle ensued and the victim called 9-1-1, resulting in the suspect fleeing eastbound on foot.

Police searched the area with negative results. The victim sustained minor injuries, said a police statement.

The suspect is described as male, tanned complexion, approximately 5’9, late 20’s, dark beard, wearing a dark coat with plaid shirt underneath and bright yellow touque. The male was carrying two bags, one being a leather briefcase. The male made a comment about taking the vehicle to Kingston Road.
