19-year old driver in trauma centre after hitting pole

Durham Police said a 19-year-old male was seriously injured in a single motor vehicle collision in Oshawa on Tuesday afternoon.

On January 11 at about 4:42 pm, members of Central-East Division were dispatched to a single motor-vehicle collision on Wentworth Street, between Cedar Street and Simcoe Street in Oshawa. The 19-year-old male driver was travelling eastbound on Wentworth Street, when he struck a pole on the south side of the road, said a police statement.

The male was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

Police would like to hear from any witnesses to this collision, who have not already spoken to police.

Members of the Collision Investigation Unit were called and the roadway was closed for several hours to collect evidence and conduct their investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the second reported pole hit by a driver in Durham this year.
