5-year old unbuckled in seat with mom speeding near school

We are aware that mothers are rushed and have to multitask, and from time-to-time get distracted. But their child’s safety is non-negotiable.

Keen-eyed officers of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) East Division on Friday said they noticed a car speed near a school in Bowmanville, in the Municipality of Clarington.

“Driver was speeding 53kmh in a posted 30kmh [zone] in front of John M James Public school, located on Mearns Avenue,” said a police alert.

“Driver also had a 5-year old unbuckled in child car seat,” they said.

“Driver was charged for speeding and drive while child passenger not properly secured,” police added without giving further details.
