Durham asks for your help to curb speeding and road rage

Imagine rushing to work and ignoring the speed limit; one wrong move or distraction can change lives forever.

This is aggressive driving and includes:

  1. Speeding,
  2. Driving too fast for conditions,
  3. Following too close,
  4. Disobeying traffic control,
  5. Turning or changing lanes without warning and
  6. Failing to yield the right-of-way.

These behaviours put everyone at risk, says the Region of Durham.

Speeding is one of the most common aggressive driving actions in our community. The Region of Durham has radar speed signs to improve driver awareness of speed limits on regional roads. A radar speed sign is a digital sign that displays a vehicle’s speed when approaching. They are mounted above an existing posted speed limit sign. The sign is solar powered, allowing it to be easily deployed in any location.

Need Residents’ Help

However, Durham still needs your help. Drivers must slow down, follow the rules of the road, and be patient and considerate. Aggressive driving can not only lead to a collision; but can also cause road rage.

For tips on dealing with aggressive driving and avoiding road rage, please visit The Official Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Driver’s Handbook: Dealing with particular situations.

Let’s all work together to keep our roads safe for everyone, said a region statement.

Durham Vision Zero is a long-term, multi-agency strategy to create safer roads for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
