What is this seen on foggy Tuesday evening in Clarington

As the fog descended on southern Durham on Tuesday February 17, our intrepid photographer, Angelica S. stepped out in the clammy cold to take pictures of the eerie soundless environs.

As she was clicking away at the fuzzy lights of the few and random cars on Highway 2 in Bowmanville, she snapped a picture with a strange orange glow on the horizon.

Our editors rejected the image from the published post as it contained an unexplained phenomenon.

However, several social media posts, some with images and videos, have since surfaced showing what appears to be flashes lighting up the nigh sky. Some of the social media uploads have described it as electrical discharges. Durham Post has been unable to confirm the veracity of the claims.

Our editors decided to dig out the image and present it to our readers – who include authorities – for a possible explanation.
