A winter storm and hazardous winter conditions are expected for the entire day of Wednesday February 18 in the Durham Region, according to Environment Canada.
The storm is expected to bring snowfall amounts of 10-15 cm with snow mixing with ice pellets at times. Roads and surfaces are expected to be icy and slippery.
A fog warning is also in place for South Durham. Near zero visibility was expected. The fog began rolling in around nightfall.
Due to the fog, icy surfaces and snow; travel will likely be challenging. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic, said the weather agency.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions and allow extra time for travel. Remember to turn on your lights while driving in the fog and slow down and maintain a safe following distance, it said.

GO Transit
Metrolinx, meanwhile, alerted customers traveling on GO Transit and UP Express that they may experience delays.
Metrolinx is encouraging everyone to plan ahead, allow extra time, and travel with caution.
Please use caution at stations and on platforms and try to use shelters to shield yourself, it said.
Metrolinx acknowledges that weather-related delays can be frustrating for customers, however they state that they “must take appropriate measures to ensure the GO Transit network operates safely in all kinds of weather conditions.”
Metrolinx is currently applying the strategies below to try to reduce service delays by:
- Storing trains near Union Station so they don’t have to travel through as much snow for the afternoon commute.
- Keeping trains at a certain temperature when not in use to make start-up easier on cold mornings and working hard to keep train doors de-iced.
- Adding more fans that blow hot air onto switches to prevent them from freezing.
- Using high-pressure snow-blower trucks to remove snow from tracks.
When there is severe winter weather, some GO stations are open late to provide a warm place for people to wait for the bus or ride home. Many stations and stops have heated shelters to keep you warm while you wait, said Metrolinx.
Metrolinx also reminds customers to be careful on stairs and platforms, in parking lots, and when you get on and off of trains and buses as surfaces may be slippery.https://durhampost.ca/male-arrested-after-stabbing-in-bowmanville
