$50,000 for hospital staff, masks for DRPS

The residents of Durham have not only been cheering frontline workers in the fight against the spread of Covid-19, but donations too have been coming in at a regular pace.

Yesterday, Ajax and Pickering Hosiptal announced it has received a donation of $50,000 towards meal costs of its frontline staff.

“The Picov Family have donated $50,000, so our Ajax Pickering Hospital frontline heroes
@LakeridgeHealth can enjoy their favourite foods during these stressful times,” said a tweet from APH Foundation.

We are truly overwhelmed by this generous gift. Join us in thanking the Picov Family, it added.

Ajax Mayor Shaun Collier tweeted: “Speechless! Thank you Picov Family @AjaxDowns for your incredible thoughtful $50k donation to AP @LakeridgeHealth! Will help frontline staff & local restaurants.”

Meanwhile, both Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and Clarington Emergency and Fire Services thanked Bowmanville Canadian Tire for donating face masks, hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.

“Our community has come together in many ways to support each other during this pandemic. We are thankful for organizations such as the Bowmanville Canadian Tire and Store Manager Robert Merenda for their support and donations, including 2,000 surgical masks for our members,” said the DRPS.

Clarington Emergency and Fire Services said it would like to thank Bowmanville Canadian Tire for “donating masks to our firefighters and keeping us stocked up on hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes”.
