Oshawa yesterday showed admiration and appreciation for Lakeridge Health Oshawa’s front line hospital workers, healthcare professionals and staff with a vehicle parade.
It was to honour their dedication to the health of the community members and their efforts to save lives during the coronavirus pandemic, said a city statement.
Led by Mayor Dan Carter and members of council, the vehicle parade began around noon on and included nearly 70 vehicles, including fire trucks, operations vehicles and vans, and members of council in their vehicles.
Displaying signs thanking healthcare workers and with horns honking, lights and sirens flashing, the vehicle parade travelled from Alexandra Park and continued down Simcoe Street North before circling the hospital main entrance at Hospital Court.
Joining the vehicle parade were city vehicles and staff representing parks, waste collection, road operations, animal services, municipal law enforcement, fire services, building services and engineering services. Oshawa Power and Oshawa Senior Community Centres 55+ also participated in the vehicle parade.
“We wanted to show our tremendous admiration and appreciation for our healthcare professionals and first responders who are working around the clock to save lives and to provide medical care for our community members during these trying, unprecedented times,” said Mayor Dan Carter.
Officers from @DRPSCEDiv and so many members of our community came out tonight to salute our frontline healthcare workers at @LakeridgeHealth in Oshawa. Thank you for all the hardwork, sacrifices and selflessness as we fight Covid-19 together. pic.twitter.com/9VXPCzMQui
