75-year old dies in Whitby roll-over crash

A 75-year-old Whitby resident was killed in a motor vehicle collision in north Whitby on Monday afternoon, police said.

On June 22 at 1:15 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Country Lane and Columbus Road West in Whitby.

A black GMC Terrain that was southbound on Country Lane failed to yield at a stop sign at Columbus Road and collided with a Dodge Ram pickup pulling a utility trailer eastbound on Columbus Road. The collision caused the Ram pickup and trailer to leave the roadway and roll over in a farm field, said police statement yesterday.

The 75-year-old driver of the GMC Terrain was the lone occupant in that vehicle and succumbed to the injuries he sustained at the collision scene, it said.

The 45-year-old male driver of the Dodge pickup was taken to a local hospital by EMS with minor injuries and released.

The road was closed for several hours while members from the Collision Investigation Unit identified and documented evidence. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident or who witnessed this collision is asked to call D/Cst. Bryson of the Traffic Services Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5255.
