Explosives unit at scene as flare washes ashore

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday had to call up its Explosives Disposal Unit following reports that a marine flare had washed ashore at a Clarington beach.

“Members of our Explosive Disposal Unit are on the beach in Clarington after a citizen found a marine flare that washed up on shore,”said a DRPS tweet.

It did not say whether the flare was live or where in Clarington it had washed ashore.

However, it did point out that such flares are used for Search and Rescue operations.

” Please don’t handle them and call 911 to have them safely removed as they can be hazardous,” DRPS added.
