Flags lowered in honour of lives lost during pandemic

Today (Thursday, March 11), municipalities across the region are lowering the flags at town halls to mark the National Day of Observance for Covid-19.

“The pandemic has impacted all of us. As we approach the one-year anniversary of the first case of Covid-19 in our town, we must remember all who have suffered and, most especially, those who have lost their lives to this virus,” said Don Mitchell, Mayor of Whitby.

“On March 11, we will honour them by lowering our flags at town hall. We also reflect on the strength our community has shown during this time and on the compassion towards others. We must continue to be strong and compassionate as we move into a spring of hope.”

Monday night, Whitby Town Council paused for a moment of silence to honour those who have lost their lives due to the Covid-19 pandemic over the past year.
