Talk of coincidences: A wheel came off two commercial motor vehicles two days in a row at Pickering on Highway 401, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
One wheel came off a tow truck on January 7 (see below) on January 7, and on the following day (January 8) a wheel came off a trailer and hit a white car.
The first collision took place at Liverpool Road in Pickering and the following day’s incident took place at Brock Road on Highway 401 in Pickering too.
The January 8 collision occurred around 12:35 pm, reported the OPP Highway Safety Division.
The wheel came completely off the CMV trailer as pictured below.

A white sedan traveling westbound on Highway 401 was struck by the wheel that had detached from the CMV trailer traveling eastbound. In the pictures below you can see the damage to the sedan and the CMV trailer.


The driver of the sedan was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the CMV was charged with:
• Drive CMV with Major Defect
• Fail to Enter Defect in Daily Inspection Report
• Operate Vehicle with Load Not Secure as Prescribed
• Use Defective or Damaged Tie-down
Passing a School Bus
Durham Regional Police (DRPS) East Division reported that on Holt Road and Highway 2 in Bowmanville,a driver failed to stop for school bus which had red lights flashing and the stop sign out.
The incident in the Municipality of Clarington happened around 8 am on Friday January 9.
The driver was fined $490 and received 6 demerit points (image below).
DRPS asks all drivers to please ensure all children’s safety and stop for school buses.
