Durham drivers may be eagle – or X-ray – eyed or both, going by the way they can get on the roads with their almost fully snow-covered vehicles.
It has been snowing and DRPS Traffic Services are out with their seasonal alerts about safe driving. One of the key messages is about clearing the snow off your vehicle, especially the windows which allow you to see what is going on in front – and back – and around you.
How much time did you save by not cleaning off your windshield today? asks DRPS Traffic Services. “Well, when you factor in the over two hours you likely spent at our overly busy Collision Reporting Centre, not too much!!”
It’s snowing again and if your vehicle looks like this (top image) while you are driving, chances are you’re going to meet the Central East Road Safety Team and be fined $110. “Please clean all of your vehicle prior to operating it,” said a police alert.
In another instance, DRPS Traffic Services pulled over a car for ‘no clear view to the rear’. The driver was fined $110.
Officers pointed out that a nice new wooden snow brush can be purchased at many local area retailers for around the $5 range.
Drive to Conditions
DRPS Traffic Services provided a couple of tips for winter driving with a Commercial Motor Vehicle.
1. Drive to conditions – just because the sign says ’60 kmh’ doesn’t mean you have to do 60. Maybe 30, in this situation, would be good. 2.
2. If a road is signed no Trucks – don’t drive on it.
