Scugog 100 Men Who Care: $200,000 raised in 10 years

The Scugog Chapter of ‘100 Men Who Care’ celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of meetings and donations.

According to the group, over the decade there have been 41 meetings and donations exceeding $200,000. The organization was established in response to a suggestion from the 100 Women Who Care group that local men contribute to community needs.

At the anniversary celebration, the original founder Richard Gauder attended along with Mayor of Scugog, Wilma Wotten, and current leaders Tyler Renaud and Nick Semeniuk, as noted in the event program. During the celebration, participants shared memories, and one account stood out, when ‘asked if there was one meeting that stood out above the rest’, Tyler Renaud responded: “The one that stands out for me wasn’t even a regular meeting. It was a separate call out to the guys to donate to the Fort McMurray Wildfires which was matched by the bank and then the Red Cross so we turned $5110 into $20,440”.

Group records further indicate that 15 members joined at the last meeting, and recruitment efforts continue, “what could be better than meeting four times a year and making donations that change lives like this” said the group. Meeting records show that the charity receiving the highest number of votes at the last meeting was Million Dollar Smiles, which received $5,300.
