5 kilos of meth busted thanks to Super Bowl checkpoint whiff

Almost five kilograms of crystal meth was seized during the Super Bowl Ride line.

On Sunday, February 9 members of Ride said they were conducting a checkpoint in the area of Consumers Drive and Garden Street in Whitby. The suspects entered the checkpoint in a black Volkswagen SUV and spoke with officers who detected an odour of cannabis.

A search was conducted under the Cannabis Control Act, resulting in the seizure of almost five kilograms of crystal meth.

A 31-year-old male from Whitby and a 34-year-old from Oshawa were both charged and held for bail hearings. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Police had previosuly warned that they would be stepping up monitoring on Super Bowl night to discourage impaired drivers.
