Summer closures at parks in Ajax and Pickering

Two municipal parks in Durham Region are undergoing significant upgrades, with temporary closures in place during construction.

In Ajax, the town has announced that work will begin at St. Catherine of Siena park on July 2. Planned improvements include:

  • A new children’s playground
  • Pedestrian lighting
  • Concrete paved seating areas with benches and a shaded picnic table
  • Replacement of existing paved walkways
  • Pickleball courts
  • Landscaping

During construction, the site will be closed to the public, and residents may notice increased construction activity, noise, and equipment in the area.

Pickering Turf Replacement

Meanwhile in Pickering, the Beverley Morgan park artificial turf replacement project is already underway. Construction began on Monday, June 23, and is expected to continue until Friday, August 29, weather permitting.

The work includes the replacement of artificial turf, and during this time, the surrounding running track, adjacent basketball court, and a portion of the parking lot will be closed to the public.

Alex Robertson Park Closure

The City of Pickering has announced the closure of Alex Robertson Park from Sunday, June 29, to Wednesday, July 2, for Canada Day Celebrations.

The City of Pickering will be hosting Canada Day festivities on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

In order to ensure a safe and enjoyable event, the city will be enacting a full closure of Alex Robertson Park to secure the fireworks launch zone from Sunday, June 29, until Wednesday, July 2, after the park has been inspected, said a city statement.
