Driver crashes into pole, fence, multiple cars and tree

Durham Regional Police say a 49-year-old man suffered serious injuries following a single-vehicle collision in Whitby early Saturday morning.

Officers from Central West Division responded to the crash at Brock Street North and Clear Spring Road around 2:20 am on June 28. Police say a Chrysler 300 sedan was heading north when the driver lost control, striking a traffic signal pole, crashing through a wooden fence, and coming to rest against a tree.

Before the collision, the vehicle also hit multiple parked cars in the lot of the Bull Pub and Grill.

The driver was transported to a trauma centre in Toronto with life-threatening injuries, which police say have since been upgraded to stable.

The Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene, and police say alcohol is believed to be a factor, though the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Hoevenaars of the Traffic Services Branch at 905-579-1520 (toll-free at 1-888-579-1520) ext. 5227.
