Ajax invests $50k of gaming revenue to aid dementia services

The Town of Ajax has announced a $50,000 contribution to the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region through its Municipality Contribution Agreement with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

The funding, provided via the Ajax Partnership Fund, will support the expansion of dementia-related programs and services within the community.

According to the Town of Ajax, the funds will help secure a new, accessible facility in partnership with Grandview Kids. The upcoming facility will include amenities such as outdoor space, a sensory trail, gymnasium, and pool, enabling the introduction of new dementia-friendly and intergenerational programming.

In June 2023, the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region opened a satellite location at the Ajax Community Centre to make dementia services more accessible to residents. Since then, the number of Ajax residents served has increased by 55 per cent.

Ajax officials noted that this investment will enhance support for individuals and families affected by dementia while enriching the broader community through inclusive and innovative programming.
