In an special weather statement issued yesterday, Environment Canada warned of a strong cold front moving in with freezing rain and strong wind gusts of 70 to 80 kmh on Monday.
“Strong southwesterly winds are expected to develop Monday morning with the passage of a strong cold front. The winds will ease through Monday evening as they shift around to the northwest. Areas that will receive ice build-up from freezing rain will be most vulnerable,” it said.
Local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Some property damage is possible. Secure loose objects, it advised
Icy Surfaces
In a yellow advisory issued earlier yesterday, Environment Canada said freezing rain will lead to icy surfaces.
“Ice accretion or build-up of 2 to 5 mm on some surfaces,” it said while earmarking areas along and north of the Highway 407 corridor.
“Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery. Icy surfaces could be difficult to detect,” it said.
