17 post-WWII Victory Houses to be designated heritage

Clarington Council is issuing 17 Notices of Intention to Designate for properties of architectural and historical value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.

The properties contain one-storey buildings constructed between 1946 and 1947 as part of Bowmanville’s Veterans’ Housing Initiative.

1 Veterans Avenue, Bowmanville: The property is located on the south side of Veterans Avenue in the Town of Bowmanville. It has design value as a representative example of purpose-built post-WWII Victory Housing. Typical of this type of building is its one-storey construction, rectangular plan, asymmetrical massing, and side gable roof with modest overhanging eaves.

  • 2 to 12 Veterans Avenue, Bowmanville
  • 36 and 38 Second Street, Bowmanville
  • 49, 51, 53 and Lambs Lane, Bowmanville
