Air1 chases dirt bike riders along the streets of Ajax [video]

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) revealed a chase by Air1 as two high speed dirt bike drivers fled from police and drove recklessly through a residential community in Ajax yesterday afternoon.

The two were arrested and face several charges.

On September 23 at about 4:05 pm, members of West Division responded to a driving complaint in the area of Pickering Beach Road and Dreyer Drive. When an officer arrived to the call, one of the motorcycles drove up to the cruiser from the rear at a high rate of speed on the sidewalk, drove into oncoming lanes and popped a wheelie before fleeing at a high rate of speed. Officers lost sight of the dirt bikes in a wooded area.

Officers did not initiate a pursuit due to concern for public safety. However, Air1 assisted and was able to locate and monitor the dirt bikes actions as they drove recklessly through the streets, parks and green spaces. Air1 followed to a residence where they were observed hiding with their motorcycles in an outdoor garage. A female was also seen assisting the suspects before entering the home, said a police statement.

Police arrested a 24-year-old male of Ajax, he is charged with: Dangerous Operation; Stunt Driving; Stunt – One or More Tires to Lift; Drive Motor Vehicle – No Plates; Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence; Drive Motor Vehicle – No Insurance and Fail to Wear Helmet on Motorcycle.

A 16-year-old male of Ajax was arrested and charged with: Dangerous Operation; Stunt Driving x3; Fail to Wear Helmet on Motorcycle; Drive Motor Vehicle – No Insurance Drive Motor Vehicle – No Plates and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence.

A 50-year-old female of Ajax was charged with Obstruct Police.

  1. What a waste of DRPS resources and OUR TAX DOLLARS. Leave the damn KIDS ALONE. Cops should not be involved in CREATING/STARTING High Speed Chases, especially of kids. Go solve real crimes. Stop acting like the fascist cops they have in the states. MINOR traffic offenses should NOT result in an stronghanded approach to law enforcement.
