Another hammer gang strikes store in Whitby Mall

Durham Police yesterday said three suspects armed with hammers broke display cases and stole multiple cell phones at a business in Whitby.

On Saturday, February 24 at about 5:40 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a robbery call at Hi Tech Communications located in the Whitby Mall at 1615 Dundas Street East.

Three males entered the business and smashed a display case to steal multiple cell phones. The victim attempted to stop the suspects but was unsuccessful. The suspects fled the area in a red four-door sedan, police said.

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.

The first suspect is described as: male, Brown, approximately 18-25 years-old. He was wearing a black ski mask, black hooded jacket, black pants.

The second suspect is described as: male, Black, approximately 18-25 years-old. He was wearing a black ski mask, black hooded sweater, black pants.

The third suspect is described as: male, Black, approximately 18-25 years-old. He was wearing a black ski mask, black hooded jacket, and black pants.

This is the third robbery in Durham since January involving the use of hammers to smash display cases (see below).
