Apply for Whitby Community Development Grants

Whitby is inviting local community and non-profit organizations that contribute to the town as a vibrant and caring community to apply for the Community Development Grant Programs.

Application deadlines for the Town’s 2020 Lead Cause grants (each up to $25,000) are as follows:

Mayor’s Fundraiser – due by October 31; and,
Mayor’s Golf Tournament – due by March 31, 2020.
Community grants of up to $5,000 can be applied for throughout the year and are awarded monthly.

In the first nine months of 2019, the town provided over $210,000 in grants to 50 local community organizations through the Mayor’s Community Development Fund (MCDF) and the Performing Arts Community Development Fund (PACDF). The MCDF provides support to community initiatives that support the community in general and the PACDF specifically supports performing arts events, projects and initiatives in the community.

The four lead causes for the Mayor’s 2019 Fundraiser and Golf Tournament were as follows:

  • Durham Region Challenger Baseball ($20,000)
  • Durham Region Hospice ($25,000)
  • Catholic Family Services of Durham – The Hope Centre ($25,000)
  • Feed the Need ($25,000)

All applications are reviewed by a council-appointed citizens committee according to evaluation guidelines approved by council. High-priority is given to community-focused applicants that have a strong local presence and promote inclusion and civic engagement.
