Assault suspect held as police investigate building fire

Durham Police have arrested a suspect for an assault even as investigators are looking for more evidence in a suspicious fire in an apartment complex in Uxbridge.

On Wednesday, September 21 at about 2 am, members from North Division responded to a fight call on Brock Street West in Uxbridge. When officers responded to the apartment, the building was on fire and spreading to multiple units. Numerous residents were displaced as a result of the fire damage. The office of the Ontario Fire Marshal was contacted and is investigating the fire, said a police statement.

Officers located a male with serious but non-life threatening injuries after being assaulted by the suspect. He was transported to a local hospital. The suspect was arrested, charged and held for a bail hearing.
