45% of Oshawa area residents not in workforce: report

It appears that more residents of the Oshawa Metropolitan Area are opting not to work or don’t have open employment avenues – at least that’s what the August statistics indicate.

Even though the area population grew by 400, labour force fell by 900, and those who opted not to participate in the labour force grew y 1,300, from the previous month.

It must be noted that August is a summer holiday month.

However, statistics reveal that more than 45 per cent of area residents were not in the workforce.

Also, employment fell by 3,100 while the number of those unemployed in August rose by 2,200.

  1. Speaking of cycling: how will they continue east from Lakeview Park via Harbour Ro ad when that extension becomes the ‘driveway’ for heavy trucks where the Waterfront Trail now runs? Ask mayor and councillors ‘will they tell us?”
