Speeding in front of Montessori school + more

Some people never learn, like a driver who was caught speeding in front of a school – at bell time, by Durham Regional Police service (DRPS) officers.

This one was in the Toynevale Community safety zone! Right in front of the Montessori school. At bell time! said a tweet from DRPS West Division.

The driver got a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day car impound.

The incident was recorded in Pickering.

In response, DRPS Traffic Services commended the West Division: “Great work – making us proud and making the area of Ajax-Pickering safer one stop at a time.”

However, this was not the end of recorded traffic violations near Durham schools.

DRPS Traffic Services clocked a driver (top image) doing 74kmh in a posted 50 school zone across two schools – and approaching more in Oshawa.

“Slow down, protect our vulnerable road users and follow posted limits,” it said.

It was a busy day for the West Division, which caught a driver (below) speeding 48kmh above the posted limit.

“Time to grease up the bicycle chain… 108kmr in a 60kmr zone,” said a tweet.

The driver got 30-day licence suspension and 14-day impoundment.

Meanwhile, in Oshawa, DRPS Central East Division Traffic Safety Team reminded drivers that speeding and other HTA (Highway Traffic Act) fines are increased in Community Safety Zones as this (below) driver found.

He was clocked going 89kmh in a 50-zone. The driver was fined $289, which was increased to $583.

“Please slow down Oshawa City residents and visitors,” said a tweet.

No red light right turn unless safe

DRPS Traffic Services reminded drivers not to turn right at red lights before making sure it was safe to do so. It cited an incident (below image) at Taunton Road and Country Line in the Town of Whitby.

“You shall not make a right turn in front of on coming traffic. You can only turn right on a red light once you’ve stopped and ensured the way is clear. Help avoid collisions by following the rules of the road,” said a tweet.

Officers from DRPS North Division Traffic conducted radar in the newly posted 40 kmh zones in downtown Uxbridge.

Please obey the lowered speed limits, said a tweet.
