The Region of Durham and the City of Oshawa have announced that they are working together on the Simcoe Street Rapid Transit Visioning Study.
The Simcoe Street Rapid Transit Visioning Study plans on outlining steps to improve mobility and quality of life for existing residents, while preparing the corridor to attract and support future growth.
In addition, it will examine ways to assess rapid transit investments, based on evolving best practices in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion, including concepts centered around the economic benefit of rapid transit and transit-oriented communities, said a joint statement.
Both municipal institutions are seeking feedback from residents to help assess the demand for rapid transit along Simcoe Street in Oshawa.
The statement said the region will host the first virtual open house, with an opportunity for residents to ask questions and provide study-related comments at the end of the session on September 28 from 6 to 8 pm.
Residents of Durham are encouraged to join virtually through Microsoft Teams. The link to join virtually will be posted on SimcoeStreetRapidTransit.ca on the day of the event.
The Region of Durham and City of Oshawa will also be hosting a series of pop-up community events with more information about the study.
