Bookings for 12+ to open by end of week: Durham Health

Durham Region Health Department yesterday defended its inability to book 12+ year olds for covid vaccinations, laying the blame on the provincial government.

It, however, said the bookings are likely to open by the end of the week.

Ontario opened vaccination bookings for 12+ year olds from May 24. Many residents could not find the booking facility – and some reported their confirmed bookings, were cancelled.

“The decision from Ontario government to open up vaccine to the 12+ population group was announced much sooner than was originally expected, said a Durham Health tweet. “As Durham Region does not use the same booking system as the province, we are in the process of reviewing our current vaccine supply – which is the responsibility of the province – and appointment booking availability to accommodate this change.”

Durham Health said it will update the website and appointment booking system as soon as possible.

“We appreciate our community’s patience as we work through these changes. We anticipate that we will open bookings before the end of this week. Please continue to check for updates: http://durham.ca/vaccineappointment,” said another tweet.
