Crash closes Bayly Street area + cyclist seriously hurt

Two men were arrested following a dangerous driving investigation resulting in a collision and the discovery of two loaded guns on Sunday night in Pickering.

On May 24, at approximately 6:20 p.m., a member of the Traffic Services Branch was patrolling the area of Whites Road and Highway 401 when he observed a black Porsche travelling eastbound in a dangerous manner. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but quickly terminated this attempt for the risk it posed to public safety.

Air1 assisted and observed the Porsche continuing to drive erratically as it exited the 401 at southbound Westney Road and proceeded westbound on Bayly Street. Officers attempted to stop the Porsche at Toy Avenue, when it attempted to evade the stop by driving up onto the curb and subsequently flipping.

Officers tended to the occupants of the Porsche and both were found to have loaded handguns in their possession. Neither suffered any injuries and were taken into custody.

Rychez LESLIE, age 21, of Scarborough, is facing charges of Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance; Flight From Peace Officer; Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm; Possession of Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm; Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized; Possession of Restricted/Prohibited Firearm No Licence/Registration; Possession of Restricted/Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a Licence/Registration; Carry Concealed Weapon as well as several Highway Traffic Act Offences.

Owais JARAFI, age 19, of No Fixed Address, is facing charges of Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm; Possession of Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm; Possession of Restricted/Prohibited Firearm No Licence/Registration; Possession of Restricted/Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a Licence/Registration; Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Serial Number Has Been Tampered and Carry Concealed Weapon.

They were both held for a bail hearing.

Cyclist injured in Uxbridge collision

A 64-year-old cyclist has serious injuries following a motor vehicle collision in Uxbridge on Saturday.

On May 22 at about 11:50 am, members from North Division responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist on Regional Highway 47 at Old Stouffville Road.

A 78-year-old male from Stouffville, was driving a grey 2018 Toyota Rav 4 and was travelling northbound on Regional Road 47, at Old Stouffville Road, when it struck a 64-year-old-male cyclist. The driver of the Rav 4 stopped and remained on scene. The cyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to trauma centre in Toronto. He remains in critical condition, police said.

Members of the Collision Investigation Unit were called and the roadway was closed for several hours to collect evidence and conduct their investigation. The investigation is ongoing. Police would like to hear from any witnesses to this collision, who have not already spoken to police.
