Bowmanville Train: New track to join CP line

Metrolinx has announced that it is examining the addition of a new track to align with the CP line, for the Bowmanville GO Train expansion.

It said the Preliminary Design Business Case confirms the feasibility of the alignment identified in the IBC (initial business case), which was approved at the February 2020 Metrolinx board meeting.

The alignment proposes one new track plus sidings and passing tracks where necessary through Oshawa GO station connecting to CP’s GM spur line to cross Highway 401, making an eventual connection through CP’s Belleville Subdivision to Bowmanville, Metrolinx explained.

The IBC examined various options and allowed Metrolinx to select one single option for further development through preliminary design through a Preliminary Design Business Case (PDBC). The PDBC is the next step in Metrolinx’s business case lifecycle.

Geotechnical Investigative Work

Metrolinx has rescheduled the geo-technical investigative work along the CP-owned corridor, which was initially slated to commence in September but has been rescheduled to late November.

This work is to collect information for the future Bowmanville Extension Project between Oshawa GO Station and Regional Road #57 in Bowmanville.
