Durham new covid cases shoot to record 131

Durham Health yesterday reported 131 new covid cases for November 28 — a new record — bringing the region’s total to 4,437 cases since the count began on February 29.

The previous daily high of 83 new cases was recorded on November 18.

Recoveries stand at 3,784, up by 5. There were 369 active covid cases in Durham.

  • Forty-eight new cases in Whitby
  • Twenty-nine in Ajax
  • Thirteen in Oshawa, and
  • Three each in Clarington and Pickering
  • Fifty-four cases are under investigation

Sixteen cases are hospitalized with two in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 453 people in home isolation.

Deaths so far total 184, of which 154 were in long term care homes (LTCH). The last covid-related death was announced on November 25; and previous to that, one death on November 10 and another on October 15.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,362 in Ajax, followed by 1,101 in Pickering.

Death Toll: No new death

Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Four deaths were reported in Whitby [none in LTCH]
Of the 23 reported deaths in Oshawa, 15 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
