Brampton man caught for human trafficking

A 32-year-old Brampton male has been arrested and charged in connection with a human trafficking investigation, said Durham Police.

In early March, a female victim came forward to the DRPS Human Trafficking Unit and advised that she had been forced into the sex trade. The suspect would post ads, arrange dates, drive the victim to her calls and then take all of her money. The suspect, who also goes by “Orange/Ikenna” was arrested on March 16, with the assistance of the DRPS Offender Management Unit.

Carl “Ikenna” Obonna, age 32, of Cranberry Court in Brampton has been charged with: Trafficking in Person by Exercising Control x2; Financial/Material Benefit Trafficking Person over 18; Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration; Material Benefit from Sexual Services and Advertising Another Person’s Sexual Services.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Human trafficking investigators are releasing his photo to ensure there are no other victims.
