Racing speedsters’ cars impounded, licences suspended

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) Traffic Services Branch on Monday stopped two vehicles racing in Ajax.

Police said they received a call at 10.05 pm on March 15 reporting stunt driving on Taunton Road near Audley Road in Ajax. A member of the Traffic Services stopped two vehicles racing each other and driving aggressively. One vehicle was travelling at 147 kmh in a 70 zone, said a police statement.

It said a 21-year old man from Toronto has been charged with Stunt Driving, Careless Driving and Speeding.

A 22-year old male from Mississauga is charged with Racing and Stunt Driving.

Both vehicles were impounded for seven days and both drivers’ licences were suspended for seven days.

DRPS Traffic Services remined everyone to share the roads, drive responsibly and report aggressive drivers.

Drug seizure at traffic stop

Earlier, on Friday, members of the DRPS Central East Division – Community Response Team, found some $6,000 worth of drugs following a traffic stop in Oshawa.

On 12 March at 8:45 pm, the vehicle was stopped at Court Street and Olive Avenue. Five of the suspects remained in the car, while one fled. The suspect was later found hiding under a car and was arrested with the assistance of K-P Unit, police said.

A 39-year old man and a 47-year old man, both of No Fixed Address, a 37-year old man from Oshawa and a 23-year old female from Lindsay, are facing charges.
