Durham police yesterday said a male is facing multiple charges following a fraud investigation involving counterfeit Canadian currency.
Between November 2025 and February this year, the accused used Facebook Marketplace to purchase gold jewelry from victims throughout Ontario. The accused paid for the jewelry using counterfeit money before taking possession of the property.
Investigators determined the victims suffered a combined financial loss of more than $27,000.
On October 27, the accused turned himself in to police and was arrested.
The investigation revealed the accused was using the Facebook account names Slimeoo Miller, Ty Johnson, Ranny RF, and Terran Miller Jr. Police believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
The suspect, 23-years-old, of Cambridge, was charged and released on an undertaking. Name, photo and further details available at www.drps.ca.
Investigators have learned the accused is also facing similar charges with eight other police services across Ontario.
Anyone who purchased or sold jewelry through Facebook Marketplace and believes they may have been victimized is encouraged to contact their local police service.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact D/Cst. Kane of the Financial Crimes Unit at 905-579-1520 ext. 5371.
