A helicopter chase of a speeding vehicle along Highway 401 on Tuesday ended in the arrest of the driver, after the vehicle blew out a tire.
On Tuesday March 23, police received reports around 9:21 pm of a large group of cars in a parking lot at Thickson Road and Dundas Street East in Whitby. Reports said some of the cars were driving dangerously.
When officers arrived, one of the vehicles left the parking lot at a high rate of speed. However, Air1 located the vehicle and followed it as it reached speeds of 180 kmh on Highway 401, police said.
The car blew a tire and Air1 was able to direct officers to arrest the driver.
A 31-year old man is facing numerous charges including Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
