Covid Update: 88 new cases, 23 variants

Durham Health yesterday posted 88 new Covid-19 cases for March 23, taking the region’s tally to 13,190 since the count began on February 29.

It also added 23 variants cases.

There was no new new covid death keeping this month’s toll to eight. There were 11 covid deaths in February, 45 in January, 53 in December and 5 in November. Durham’s overall death toll stands at 305 with 217 of them occurring in LTCs.

There were:

  • 12 new cases in Pickering
  • 31 in Ajax
  • 5 in Whitby
  • 27 in Oshawa
  • 8 in Clarington
  • 2 in Brock

Recoveries stand at 12,248 (12, 210), up by 38. There are 637 active covid cases.

Twenty-seven cases are hospitalized with 10 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 610 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 3,843 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 305              LTC – 217

Of the 99 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTC
Of the 51 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Forty-seven deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 52 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
Sixteen deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
Sixteen deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
No deaths have been reported in Brock
