Church Street Bridge Closure

On May 30, the town announced the closure of the Church Street Bridge (Bridge 18) through a notice of construction.

The bridge over Duffins Creek, located 60 meters North of Highway 401, was constructed in 1960. The roadway bridge was in need of maintenance and repair, as indicated by lifecycle and condition assessments.

The Town of Ajax retained KB Civil Constructors for the project. The proposed schedule and the duration of the bridge closure as provided by the contractor at that time was from Mill Street to Durham Live Avenue from July 1 to September 30.

Westney Road had been designated as a detour route to accommodate northbound and southbound traffic.

Description of Work:

  • Waterproofing, removal and replacement of existing asphalt on the bridge deck
  • Excavation and rock protection to rectify severe erosions at the South Pier
  • Partial depth concrete removal and repairs of the abutments, piers, and girders
  • Jacking of superstructure
  • Implementation of a work area and scaffolding
