A teenager is facing charges after citizens saw him with what appeared to be a handgun in a Whitby park.
On Saturday, August 24, 2019, at approximately 10 am, police were called after someone saw a teenager holding a handgun in D’Hillier Park in the McQuay Boulevard/Moonstone Drive area. The teen was seen fishing in the storm pond with two other males when the handgun was observed.
Officers arrived and located the teen, who was in possession of a backpack and a satchel. Officers located a black pellet gun, two cell phones, a quantity of prescription drugs and cocaine, a digital weight scale and more than $500 in Canadian and American cash. The prescription medication did not belong to the accused. The pellet gun looked like a real handgun.
A 16-year-old Clarington male has been charged with Carry Concealed Weapon, Possess Weapons Dangerous to Public Peace and several drug-related offences. He was held for a bail hearing.
