Clarington to add 25 EV vehicles, 60 charge points

Clarington has announced it plans on reviewing the Clarington Electric Vehicle Action Plan (EVAP) on January 17.

The EVAP is a guide to transition the municipal fleet to zero-emissions electric vehicles (EV) and install fleet and public EV charging stations at municipal facilities between 2022 and 2026. The EVAP establishes the municipality’s annual EV purchases and infrastructure needs and makes recommendations for the timing and location of public EV charging stations to be included in the annual budget cycle, said a statement.

By following the steps outlined by the EVAP, the municipality would transition 25 fleet vehicles to electric and install at least 60 EV charge points on municipal properties for public and fleet charging.

Fleet vehicles are responsible for 13.8 per cent of Clarington’s municipal greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Transportation is responsible for approximately 47 per cent of region-wide GHG emissions. By implementing the EVAP, the municipality would take significant steps to respond to climate change by directly reducing GHG emissions associated with corporate transportation; provide infrastructure to meet the community’s need for public EV charging; and improve community wellbeing by promoting transportation options that reduce air and noise pollution.
