108 recoveries outpace 57 new covid cases in Durham

Durham Health yesterday added two new Covid-19 long term care home (LTCH) deaths in Scugog, taking the region’s toll to 266 since the count began on February 29. Of these, 211 deaths have taken place in LTCHs.

The new fatalities take the current month’s toll to 26 up until January 19. There were 53 deaths in Durham in December and five in November.

Durham Health posted 57 new Covid-19 cases for January 19, taking the region’s tally to 9,900.

Recoveries stand at 8,880, up by 108. There are 754 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 11 new cases in Pickering
  • 16 in Ajax
  • 8 in Whitby
  • 18 in Oshawa
  • 4 in Clarington, and
  • One each in Uxbridge and Scugog

Forty-three cases are hospitalized with 14 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 711 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,897 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 266              LTCH – 211

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Forty-one deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTCH
Of the 46 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Nine deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
23 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Ten deaths has been reported in Scugog, eight in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
