Seven new deaths take Durham covid toll to 264

Durham Health yesterday added seven new Covid-19 deaths, taking the region’s toll to 264 since the count began on February 29. Of these, 209 deaths have taken place in LTCHs.

The new fatalities take the current month’s toll to 24 up until January 18. There were 53 deaths in Durham in December and five in November.

There were two deaths in Whitby, one in Oshawa and four in Scugog, of which three were in LTCHs.

Durham Health posted 59 new Covid-19 cases for January 18, taking the region’s tally to 9,843. Another two cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 8,772, up by 180. There are 807 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 15 new cases in Pickering
  • 31 in Ajax
  • 13 in Whitby
  • 2 in Oshawa
  • 2 in Clarington, and
  • 3 in Uxbridge

Forty-four cases are hospitalized with 15 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 763 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,881 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 264              LTCH – 209

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Forty-one deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTCH
Of the 46 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Nine deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
23 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Eight deaths has been reported in Scugog, six in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
