Durham Health revises January covid toll to 17

Durham Health yesterday added one new LTCH (long term care home) Covid-19 death in Scugog and one non-LTCH death in Whitby, taking the region’s toll to 257 since the count began on February 29. Of these, 206 deaths have taken place in LTCHs.

The new fatalities take the current month’s toll to 17 up until January 17. There were 53 deaths in Durham in December and five in November.

Durham Health posted 82 new Covid-19 cases for January 16, taking the region’s tally to 9,779. Another four cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 8,592, up by 134. There are 983 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 11 new cases in Pickering
  • 17 in Ajax
  • 8 in Whitby
  • 31 in Oshawa
  • 10 in Clarington
  • 2 in Uxbridge, and
  • One in Scugog

Forty-nine cases are hospitalized with 16 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 930 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,850 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 257              LTCH – 206

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-nine deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Nine deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
23 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Four deaths has been reported in Scugog, three in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
