New Durham covid cases at 91, recoveries at 87

Durham Health yesterday added one new LTCH (long term care home) Covid-19 death in Scugog, taking the region’s toll to 255 since the count began on February 29. Of these, 205 deaths have taken place in LTCHs.

The new fatality takes the current month’s toll to 15 up until January 16. There were 53 deaths in Durham in December and five in November.

Durham Health posted 91 new Covid-19 cases for January 16, taking the region’s tally to 9,696. Another three cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 8,458, up by 87. There are 983 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 37 new cases in Pickering
  • 28 in Ajax
  • 12 in Whitby
  • 13 in Oshawa
  • 9 in Clarington
  • 2 in Uxbridge, and
  • One in Brock

Forty-seven cases are hospitalized with 15 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 936 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,833 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 255              LTCH – 205

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-eight deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Nine deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
23 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Three deaths has been reported in Scugog, two in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
