983 active covid cases posted in Durham

Durham Health yesterday added one new non-LTCH (long term care home) Covid-19 death in Oshawa, taking the overall toll to 254 since the count began on February 29. Of these, 204 deaths have taken place in LTCHs.

The new fatality takes the current month’s toll to 14 up until January 15. There were 53 deaths in Durham in December and five in November.

Durham Health posted 127 new Covid-19 cases for January 15, taking the region’s tally to 9,608. Another 17 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 8,371, up by 27. There are 983 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 21 new cases in Pickering
  • 39 in Ajax
  • 19 in Whitby
  • 25 in Oshawa
  • 5 in Clarington
  • 6 in Uxbridge
  • 7 in Scugog, and
  • One in Brock

Forty-six cases are hospitalized with 13 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 937 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,805 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 254              LTCH – 204

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-eight deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Nine deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
23 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Two deaths has been reported in Scugog, one in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
