Three break-ins a night thief treated for dog bite

A 27-year-old male has been arrested after three homes were broken into in Clarington, police said.

On Thursday, January 14, 2021, at approximately 8 am, members of East Division were dispatched to a residence in the area of Nash Road and Trulls Road in Clarington for reports of a suspicious person. Officers searched the area and located a stolen Audi vehicle parked on the street.

While searching for the suspect, police received a second call of a break and enter in progress. The elderly victim confronted the male suspect who was inside the residence. The suspect assaulted the victim and fled the residence on foot, police said.

With the assistance of K-9 Unit, the suspect was arrested while attempting to flee into a neighbouring yard. The suspect suffered minor injuries as a result of a dog bite and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Officers believe the suspect entered three separate residences and stole personal items from within the home.

Zachary Grills of Oxford Street in Oshawa, is facing numerous charges including: Break and Enter x3; Theft of Motor Vehicle; Assault; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over; Operate Conveyance while Prohibited; Possession Contrary to Prohibition Order and Fail to Comply with Probation Order x9.

He was held for a bail hearing.
