Covid Update: 1 death, 81 cases, 54 variants

Durham Health yesterday posted 81 new Covid-19 cases for March 19, taking the region’s tally to 12,822 since the count began on February 29.

It also added 54 new variants cases.

There was one new non-LTC (long term care) covid death in Oshawa bringing this month’s toll to seven. There were 11 covid deaths in February, 45 in January, 53 in December and 5 in November. Durham’s overall death toll stands at 304 with 217 of them occurring in LTCs.

There were:

  • 15 new cases in Pickering
  • 18 in Ajax
  • 7 in Whitby
  • 26 in Oshawa
  • 8 in Clarington
  • 2 in Uxbridge
  • 3 in Scugog
  • 2 in Brock

Recoveries stand at 12,069 (12,027), up by 42. There are 449 active covid cases.

Twenty-nine cases are hospitalized with 12 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 420 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 3,712 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 304              LTC – 217

Of the 99 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTC
Of the 51 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Forty-six deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 52 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
Sixteen deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
Sixteen deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
No deaths have been reported in Brock
