Suspicious package found in police station lobby

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said officers were investigating a suspicious package found near the visitors lobby of the DRPS Central East Division on Centre Street in Oshawa.

“Please avoid visiting the police station until this matter is resolved,” cautioned a police tweet.

This morning DRPS tweeted: “This matter has been resolved and there are no safety concerns. Thanks for your understanding.”

No further details were released.

Shooting investigation

Meanwhile, investigators from the Central East Division were investigating a shooting.

A tweet said a male victim was dropped off at an Oshawa hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigation is ongoing.

74-year old suspect held for shooting in Pickering

Investigators have arrested a 74-year-old male following the discharge of a firearm into a commercial premise in early March.

On March 2, members were called to the Meridian Credit Union on Kingston Road in Pickering after damage was found to a window, door and computer inside the store as a result of a gunshot. The store was closed when the shots were fired and there were no injuries. Police began an investigation and arrested the suspect whom lived in the vicinity of the Credit Union. Police seized several firearms from a residence.

Martin Lee, age 74 of Pickering, faces several firearm-related charges including: Possession of Firearm No License; Discharge Firearm into a Place; Possession Weapon-Dangerous to Public Peace; Transport Firearm; Careless Storage of a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession was Illegal and Possession of a Loaded Firearm.
